The Horizon Europe project EUROSION has kicked-off with the 1st in-person Consortium Meeting in Wageningen, the Netherlands, hosted by project’s coordinator, Wageningen University & Research, between January 20 to 22, 2026.
These three days offered an opportunity for all 24 partners from 13 countries across Europe and beyond to meet and reaffirm their shared objective: developing a pan-European dynamic soil erosion monitoring system and network, as well as elaborating and promoting best agricultural practices to reduce soil erosion.
The kick-off enabled the consortium to engage in broad discussions on the project’s progress through presentations, workshops, and bilateral meetings, and to outline the next steps, all while strengthening the already existing partnership.
EUROSION partners also had the opportunity to take an excursion to Kootwijkerzand, where large-scale sand drifts historically posed major challenges in the cover-sand areas of the Netherlands. The visit highlighted the uniqueness of this landscape and the current management strategies used to keep the drift sands active.
The group also visited the Wageningen University campus, including the laboratories of the Soil Physics and Land Management - Chair Group - Wageningen Environmental Research, and paid a visit to the ISRIC - World Soil Information World Soil Museum.
